The BIA Innovation Fund is a grant that provides funding to BIAs to test innovative and creative solutions to BIA issues and share their findings/results with other BIAs. The program exists to encourage innovation within the BIA model, and to allow for unique projects to be piloted throughout the city. The aim is to expand the range of community improvement strategies that are traditionally available to BIAs by showcasing innovative, scalable solutions to localized challenges.

Pilot highly creative and exceptional projects in the City of Toronto
The Toronto BIA Office will review all applications to the Innovation Fund, and will determine successful applications as well as the award amount. Grant amounts are available in the following denominations:
The Innovation Fund grant can be used to fund a variety of activities including: Consultant services; salaries/wages of BIA staff; technical assistance; research including data collection, surveying, etc.; communications; and workshop/consultation facilitation among others.
Projects which are eligible for funding under other BIA financial incentive programs including: BIA Capital Cost-Share Program, Mural Street Art Program, or Streetscape Master Plan Program are not eligible to be funded under the Innovation Fund. In addition, the Innovation Fund may not be used to cover the cost of any project-related services completed prior to grant application approval.
How to Apply
Applications for the Innovation Fund must include the following completed documents:
Application Cover Page provided by the Toronto BIA Office
Project Proposal consisting of a 10-slide slidedeck describing the proposed project
Letters of support from any additional funders (if applicable).
The Innovation Fund will operate with two funding streams each year affording BIAs with ample opportunity to apply for the grant.
